Developing the Young Workforce
The Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) initiative was established following the report by The Commission for Developing the Young Workforce, led by Sir Ian Wood, which agreed that all of our young people are entitled to an education relevant to the world of work.
Regional groups have been created across the country to lead and support the development of Scotland’s Young People identifying issues of skills gaps and youth unemployment.
DYW North Highland aims to develop better partnerships between employers and education providers to ensure that education focuses on employment and progression in learning, Modern Apprenticeships meet the needs of industry requirements and that young people leaving school and college are better prepared for the world of work.
This initiative, funded by Scottish Government and Nuclear Decommissioning Authority has four core themes:-
- Boosting Employment and Work Experience
- Developing Career and Employability Skills
- Strengthening Education – Business Partnerships
- Enhancing Curriculum Pathways
By the end of the initiative, creation of an employer-led group will be complete ensuring sustainability of this programme and continued employment opportunities for our young people.
