With almost 40 years combined experience working in the Nuclear and Oil & Gas industry providing Engineering Fabrications, Technical Support, and Installation Expertise as well as the supply of personnel to both industries, Martin and Jim Nicolson founded Blargoans in 2009.
With Jim’s vast knowledge of the Nuclear and Oil & Gas industries, the duo recognised a gap in the market in the North of Scotland for Industrial Supplies, Plant and Equipment and thus Blargoans Ltd was opened with a view to bridging this gap through not only the supply of industrial plant, tools and equipment but also Suitable Qualified and Experienced (SQEP) personnel.
Using contacts built up through years of supply, their aim is simply to provide the customer with what they require at the most competitive rate available. Blargoans strive to provide customers with knowledge and experience of plant, tools and equipment suitable for the unique processes carried out on the Dounreay site. This has been built up over many years backed up by a passion for service and the will to source good quality products, always at a fair price.
Martin’s background is as a time served Mechanical Technician, serving the trade on the Dounreay Nuclear Site from 1986 – 1990 with UKAEA and continuing as a tradesman until 1994 before joining the family Engineering company, remaining on the Dounreay Site for the next 14 years as the company’s site manager. Like his father before him, Martin gained vast experience and understanding of the equipment/consumables needed by the various plants to complete both routine and bespoke tasks after working at the coal face for so many years.
Blargoans continue to strive to offer the personal touch with face to face support to customers across Caithness and beyond. Their trading philosophy is simple and effective, committing to customer care and prompt delivery, offering a comprehensive range of products and services at competitive prices.

Blargoans provide a service of Temporary and Permanent Personnel to the Engineering, Office & Commercial Industries, growing at a manageable rate now employing in excess of 30 people to local companies.

Hospitality
Blargoans commitment to the county has been illustrated through the purchase, renovation and relaunching of the Northern Sands Hotel. The renovation was completed exclusively by local trades people. Acutely aware of the impact that the decommissioning of nuclear sites will have on Caithness. They aim to increase tourism in the county by providing a modern, warm, friendly & professional environment serving quality food in a stunning location on the NC500.
Beautifully refurbished hotel in the idyllic village of Dunnet, situated 4 miles from the mainland’s most northerly point Dunnet Head. Blessed with an enchanted forest, nostalgic Dwarwick pier and a sweeping white sandy beach stretching for over 2 miles. The bay offers great opportunities to sunbathe, paddle, swim, surf and indulge in other beach sports. Dunnet offers an extensive range of outdoor pursuits for active families, such as surfing, wind surfing, horse riding, kite buggying and sand castle making for the less active why not sit back and relax in Logan’s Bar or our Pentland’s Lounge and watch a variety of sport on our Sky TV.
We are on the brand new NC500, which the media have called Scotland’s own Route 66. Situated next door to the mainland’s most northerly Gin Distillery, Dunnet Bay Distillers which is a family business producing the award winning Rock Rose Gin & Holy Grass Vodka.
A variety of menus are available throughout the day, all year round, using an extensive list of local produce. Well-appointed rooms with extra-long plush beds for a peaceful night’s sleep, free wifi & parking are available. As a small business ourselves we understand the reliance on IT equipment in today’s busy environment, sometimes the knowledge required to know what’s possible or how to resolve PC issues can seem like a minefield and slightly overwhelming.
With 15 years’ experience many queries are resolved in a single visit, we also provide ongoing support packages tailor made to your requirements. All levels of support requests welcome from minor queries and faults, to expanding or updating your current PC’s, servers, phones /networking systems.
Minibus Hire
Blargoans have four off Ford Executive 16 passenger seat minibuses and one off Luxury Mercedes midi coach complete with tables, privacy glass and DVD monitors
