The Allergy Awareness Training Course is a professionally and nationally recognised certificated course which aims to raise awareness of issues around allergies, coeliac disease & intolerance’s and of how to cater for sufferers in a variety of contexts. It is now a legal requirement that caterers provide correct information about what is in food to consumers and this interesting and useful course, delivered by our highly experienced trainers, is suitable for all who work in the provision of food.

This Allergy Action Course is accredited by the Royal Environmental Health Institute of Scotland (REHIS). North Highland College UHI is an approved REHIS training centre.

This qualification is for those involved in the sale of alcohol in both on-sales and off-sales environments. It has been developed to comply with Licensing (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Alcohol etc. (Scotland) Act 2010. These standards are necessary because of changes in the law which makes them part of the licensed trade’s responsibility – i.e. it is a regulatory requirement.

While the main part of the course is delivered over one day (0915-1700 hrs), including candidates undertaking an assessment at the end of the course, those enrolling will be issued with learning materials by post, prior to attendance on the course. Candidates are expected to study the learning materials prior to coming on the one-day short course, so that they are able to engage fully with the course delivery.

This one-day short course covers three key areas:

Introduction to licensing
Responsible operation of licensed premises
Effect of irresponsible operation on society and health

This three day training course aims to enable participants to understand the principles of First Aid, to practise First Aid procedures, emphasising resuscitation and recovery position and helps participants to deal with emergency situations.

First aid regulations
General principles of first aid
Basic human anatomy
Taking a pulse
Breathing and asphyxia causes and recognition
CPR
Circulation of the blood
External wounds and bleeding causes
Practical triangular bandaging
Internal bleeding and shock
Burns, scalds and effects of temperature
Practical application of sterile dressings
Fractures, sprains and strains
Poisons
Eye injuries
Practical and theory examination
