Dounreay contest off and running
Published: 08/02/2010 09:55

Press & Journal, Aberdeen
The contest to take over the Dounreay site started in earnest this weekend. A total of 22 companies based in the UK and US attended the first of two industry dates hosted by the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority. It is thought just a handful will end up submitting formal bids to take over DSRL, the site licence company.

The all-day event at Wick Assembly Rooms focused on the potential social and economic benefits for the far north. Community and voluntary groups were among the 200 delegates who attended.
Graeme Rankin, NDA programme manager, said: "This is the first step in the process of putting the management of Dounreay out to competition. It gives a chance for people who may want to bid for DRSL and people from the local community to meet with us and set out their aspirations and expectations. We'll be putting a bit more flesh on the bones on the way the competition will be run at the second industry day in March in Glasgow."
