HIE Caithness & Sutherland
The counties of Caithness and Sutherland at the far north of mainland Scotland encompass a vast and diverse area with many distinct communities. Here, there are hundreds of businesses, each with plans for the future, constraints and possibilities. There are almost 40,000 people with their own skills and potential and there are many highly committed voluntary and community groups. Together they make a powerful combination.
The task of HIE Caithness and Sutherland is to unlock that potential and help create a strong, diverse and sustainable economy where quality of life is matched by quality of opportunity.
Highland Opportunity/Business Gateway
The business of HOL is that of an Enterprise Trust for the Highlands - a body whose purpose is to stimulate economic activity, promote the start up and growth of business ventures including social enterprises, to help create new jobs, improve access to employment and foster business and trade. It has been in existence since 1986.
North Highland Regeneration Fund
Small businesses and young companies often find it difficult to raise money to fund growth. The (NHRF) has been established by the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority to provide loan funding complementing other existing sources of funding for small businesses. This initiative is designed to pump-prime both the start up of new ventures and the growth of existing businesses as part of the drive to replace the jobs which will be lost in the Caithness and Sutherland area as the Dounreay nuclear plant is decommissioned.
